Virtual Con

Furry conventions, being places where people from all over the world meet, mingle and hug, have been very much off the menu for the last year, but many organisers have done a good job of providing an online alternative.

This weekend was the turn of Virginia-based Fur the 'More, who were kind enough to make me their Guest of Honour back in 2019. I made some lovely furry writing friends over there and was eager to hang out with them again, if only virtually, so I signed up for several panels as part of the writing track.

Two of the panels, on 'Historical Fiction' and 'Creating Compelling Characters', we prerecorded, but two went out live. This meant I had to be up until 1am my time on Saturday night/Sunday morning for 'Submit and Publish', while 'Slice of Life' was at the more reasonable time of 7pm on Sunday.

I had a great time discussing writing and editing with lovely people, and taking audience questions. The convention thanked me for wrestling time zones to attend, which of course was my absolute pleasure.

It was cheaper and easier than flying to the US, but less fun, and I hope I'll be able to attend the real thing again one day.
