A Dictionary of the Near Future

Last night I finished Player One, Douglas Coupland's latest. It's set in an airport in a scarily believable disaster scenario. There's philosophy, and humour, and bar snacks. I liked it a lot.

When I discovered that the last section of the book was not more story! but a glossary of made-up terms touched on in the novel, I felt slightly swindled. But then I found a term for my mum - dimanchophobia, the fear of unstructured time - and one for me: fictive rest, the condition of being unable to sleep without having read at least a few sentences of a book first.
