Great!

Because I have nothing better to do, I get very cross about the creeping Americanisms pervading our language.

My current pet peeve is a sign above a display of muffins (American muffins, mark you, not the real kind, though I admit the American ones are tastier) in my local BP station which claims: 'I go great with a coffee!'

We do not 'go great' with things in this country. We go 'well', or perhaps 'nicely'.

Hmm.

All right. I can see why the copywriters chose 'great'.
