Bloody Good Sense

orona_red linked to this petition asking for the ban on gay and bisexual blood donors in the UK to be lifted.

As a longtime blood donor with a number of gay friends, many of whom have expressed regret and frustration at not being able to give blood themselves, I have very strong feelings on this issue. Can it really be true that a homosexual man who has been in a monogamous relationship for a decade (like several people on my Friends list) is more likely to pass on an STD through his blood than a straight man or woman who goes in for one-night stands and doesn't use protection? I sincerely hope not.

Even if the petition is unsuccessful, at least it will get the issue raised. I'm glad to have signed it.
