I'm off to Cardiff tomorrow for our Annual Conference. The prospect does not fill me with joy: three days of being nice to Joanna Public while she tells me our website is rubbish and the Search facility doesn't work properly (both, unfortunately, true).

But I like strange cities, I like sleeping in hotels and reading more books than I normally get the chance to, and there's a 5-a-side football match (HQ staff vs. Cardiff OTs) on Wednesday night. Plus the heady excitement of the Gala Dinner.

What will really keep me smiling through, though, is that I'm taking the scooter up and I'll be spending the subsequent weekend pottering around the Brecon Beacons, with work paying for my petrol money to Cardiff and back.
