Dogfight [by the_gneech]

The Last Year Of My 20s

Thank you for all the good wishes! You have made me a happy husky.

My birthday treat was a trip to Shoreham Air Show in the company of cybersofa and Roger, another maxi-scooter rider and aviation enthusiast.

When I arrived at my parents' place on Friday night, I observed: no other bikes in the garage. cybersofa's Beemer had broken down on the way home from work! He nursed it home under RAC escort and its removal to the workshop was arranged for the following day. This necessitated his spending Saturday as my pillion passenger and waver-in-chief at bikers riding the other way.

So it was as a two-scooter convoy that we made our way along the A27 and parked in the designated bike area - smack next to the airshow entrance.

It was great to see a Catalina in the air again after several flying-boatless years; what an elegant creature! The Harrier burst a tyre during its landing, but nothing was damaged save the pilot's ego. And the Utterly Butterly Barnstormers made one of their last appearances in St. Ivel livery before their changeover to an as yet secret new sponsor. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was delayed by low cloud at Biggin Hill, but arrived just in time to close the show.

Having navigated back to base, I finished off the day by drinking half a bottle of wine and playing my new Country Joe & The Fish album. It doesn't get much better than this.
