Repeating Myself

I always enjoy phone conversations with my friend J, who's a doctor specialising in Alzheimer's and other conditions that affect speech and memory.

Last night he told me that when speech deteriorates, patients are sometimes left able to say only one phrase - usually one which they have used frequently in the past. (The example he gave was a man who could only say "I love you", which would be undeniably awkward in some social situations.)

A sentence I use almost daily is "I'm such an idiot!"

I hereby resolve to cut down.
