Farewell, Maxwell

Don Adams, star of Get Smart, lust object of my teenage years and origin of many of my mannerisms and catchphrases - the man who made me want to be funny - died last night aged 82.

Two years ago I attended the 'Get Smart Gathering' in Los Angeles, a dinner held to commemorate the show's 40th anniversary. Almost every surviving cast member was present, including Don and Barbara 'Agent 99' Feldon, who sat at my table. I'm so, so glad I had the chance on that occasion to shake Don's hand and tell him how much that goofy spy spoof meant to me.

"Would you believe...?"

That he's gone? No, I don't, yet.
