Don Quixote

Book meme via loganberrybunny and eliki

List ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Take just a few minutes and don't think too hard -- they don't have to be the "right" or "great" works, just the ones that have touched you.

Some of these have influenced my writing, some have influenced my life, and some both. Presented roughly in order of reading.

  • The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
  • The Compleet Molesworth - Geoffrey Willans & Ronald Searle
  • Aunts Aren't Gentlemen - P. G. Wodehouse
  • The Call of the Wild - Jack London
  • I, Robot - Isaac Asimov
  • Don Quixote - Miguel de Cervantes
  • Biggles of 266 - W. E. Johns
  • Dr No - Ian Fleming
  • The Saint and Mr Teal - Leslie Charteris
  • Microserfs - Douglas Coupland

Just So Stories - Rudyard Kipling
The Jungle Book - Rudyard Kipling
Lord of the Flies - William Golding
Chocky - John Wyndham
The Chrysalids - John Wyndham
Decision at Doona - Anne McCaffrey
Dragonsong - Anne McCaffrey
Arrows of the Queen - Mercedes Lackey
Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
Johnny and the Bomb - Terry Pratchett
Sirius - Olaf Stapledon
So You Want To Be A Wizard - Diane Duane
Callahans Crosstime Saloon - Spider Robinson

...and there are plenty more I'd include if I could...
Three on there I really want to read (Decision at Doona, Ender's Game and Sirius).
I like this meme. Your choice of books is fab and totally sums you up - even if it was posted anonymously I would have guessed it was yours!
Oh dear, am I that transparent? :)
Aunts Aren't Gentlemen - oh, what a superb title! I shall confess: I've never read any of PGW's writing, though have enjoyed many adaptations. I feel I should remedy this here. ^_^

I suppose it's an obvious question, but have you been following the ongoing BBC "Fleming" (aka "The Man Who Would be Bond")? I'd be interested in your thoughts thereon.
Dammit, no, I have somehow missed news of this! I shall look into it.
